Sugarloaf, ME -- WVA PG alpine skier Brennan Smith finished the Sugarloaf speed week downhill races with a 1st and a 4th, with six other WVA/BBTS alpine athletes in the top 20.
In the first of two downhill races on the steep Narrow Gauge trail at Sugarloaf Mountain, Smith topped the field by foud tenths of a second with a time of 1:13.87. Teammate Taber Engelken and Jeremy Epstein finished tied in 7th with a time of 1:15.25, also tied in 11th place were Drew Stefanic and Stephen Bouzianis with a time of 1:15.77. Other WVA/BBTS skiers in the top 20 were Garrett Quimby in 17th and AJ Clemens in 18th.
In the second day of downhill racing, Smith narrowly missed the podium by four tenths of a second, speeding his way to 4th place. Four of his teammates were right behind him, with AJ Clemens finishing in 6th, Taber Engelken in 8th, Garrett Quimby in 12th and Prescott McLaughlin in 14th.
