Dan Thompson Named Director of Operations and Competition

WVBBTS/WVA is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Daniel Thompson to the new position of Director of Operations and Competition.  In his new role, Dan will be responsible for
directing on-hill operations and event management. This includes all on-hill activities relating to training and competition, managing the on-mountain WVBBTS facilities, communicating and wor

 

king with Waterville Valley Resort as our lead contact, and coordinating equipment management and venue safety. In addition, while head coaches will remain the primary contact regarding training and competition, Dan will be available to field questions and concerns from BBTS families and help facilitate direct communications between parents and coaches as needed. Finally, Dan will work closely with the Board of Trustees as a member of the Mountain Relations and Competition committees.
This is Dan’s 8th year with WVBBTS/WVA.  Dan first became involved in the BBTS family with his two sons Dakota (22) and Casey (19) who both attended WVA and are now in college, Dakota at Colby/Dartmouth (dual degree program) and Casey at NC State University.
Seven years ago, Dan began coaching with BBTS as a U14 weekend coach and a winter term teacher of science and math. Dan then led the development of the Academy Full Term (Pinnacle) program business plan, became a full-term science and math faculty member and has coached full time for U16s and FIS Women.
Dan has a PhD in Chemistry from Duke University, is retired from a 25+ year career in the pharmaceutical industry that included P&L responsibility of large laboratories and multinational organizations.  Dan is a Level 200 coach with more than 15 years of coaching experience. He was the Program Manager of a ski club in North Carolina that he grew from 8 to more than 50 athletes, worked with the US Ski Team as a guest coach and on the development of US Ski Team athlete metrics, sat on the EACC (Eastern USSA Racing Governing Body) and drove the development of their operating procedures, and was the finance chair on Duke School for Children Board of Trustees.
