Athletes, 13 and older, train to compete in slopestyle, big air, and rail contests. They will also spend time perfecting their acrobatic skills and freeride maneuvers on the trampolines at the Thomas Barbeau Training Center and on the BagJump at Phil’s Hill. Our training venues at Waterville Valley Resort include a nationally ranked terrain park with a dedicated Poma lift and a private aerial site, home of the 2010 US National Junior Olympics.
Athletes compete on the Eastern Championship Series (“A” Series) as well as in many open events around New England. Select athletes who qualify may also attend competitions on the FIS Nor-Am Tour, Junior Olympics, US Selection Events, US National Championships, the Rev Tour and the Aspen Open.

Dan Shuffleton // Freeski, Freestyle, Snowboard Director
Dan brings more than 15 years of freeski and acrobatic training experience to WVBBTS. He is a Level 400 certified Aerial coach. He has worked with athletes who have appeared on both the national and international freeskiing scene. In 2014 and 2020, US Ski & Snowboard named Dan the U.S. Freeskiing Domestic Coach of Year.
Matthew Crowe// Freeski Head Coach
Matt has been a full-time coach for WVBBTS/WVA since 2016 and also acts as a dorm parent at WVA. Matts was a WVA athlete himself where he competed and trained with Coach Dan Shuffleton. Matt is passionate about physical training and is a certified personal training and is often seen leading work-outs with athletes. In his free time, you can catch Matt cycling all over NH.
