The WVA snowboard program is open to athletes 6th -12th grade who complete in slopestyle or alpine snowboarding. The snowboard program at WVA Utilizes the Thomas Barbeau Training Center and Phil’s Hill Bag Jump to work on acrobatic skills in the off-season. When back at home in Waterville, the team trains in the nationally recognized Exhibition Terrain Park, which is serviced by its own Poma Lift. Alpine Boarders will train with dedicated lane space at Waterville Valley Resort. Snowboarder at WVA will also travel throughout the United States competing in the Rev Tour, Grand Prix and US Open-type events
The combination of top-level training venues and outstanding coaching has produced athletes such as Pat Moore, Chas Guldemond, Danny Garrity, Greg Maxwell, James Brumfield, Tanner Pendelton, Tim Humphreys, Sam Huilbert, Brendan Reis, Ian Thorley, and Nick Juilis. This amazing list of alumni has won numerous Grand Prix Slopestyles, US Open Slopestyles, TTR World Titles, and filmed with some of the best snowboard production companies in the world.
Dan Shuffleton // Freeski Director
The Snowboard program is directed by Dan Shuffleton. Dan brings more than 15 years of freeski and acrobatic training experience to WVBBTS. He is a Level 400 certified Aerial coach. He has worked with athletes who have appeared on both the national and international freeskiing scene. In 2014 and 2020, USSA named Dan the U.S. Freeskiing Domestic Coach of Year.
