Waterville Valley Academy’s Full-Term Program is an exceptional opportunity for dedicated student-athletes to excel both on the mountain and in the classroom. Designed for alpine skiers and freestylers in grades 9 through 12, the program offers a high-performance training environment paired with a rigorous and flexible academic curriculum that supports both athletic and academic excellence.
Elite Training, Year-Round Focus
WVA is one of the East Coast’s premier snowsports academies, offering a full-time training model built around long-term athlete development. With a season that spans late August through May, student-athletes benefit from:
- Year-Round Training & Competition: On-snow training begins in the late summer and continues through spring, supported by comprehensive dryland conditioning, strength training, mental skills, and recovery programming.
- Domestic and International Travel: Athletes have the opportunity to train and compete at elite venues across the U.S. and abroad, with full academic support while traveling.
- Individualized Athletic Plans: Each athlete receives a personalized training program guided by expert coaches focused on skill progression, competitive readiness, and long-term development.
Flexible, Rigorous Academics Designed for Athletes
WVA offers a college preparatory curriculum that rivals top independent schools, but with a structure designed to support the demanding schedule of competitive athletes:
- Flexible Academic Scheduling: The academic calendar and daily schedule are intentionally built around the snowsports season, enabling student-athletes to meet rigorous academic expectations while fully engaging in training and competition.
- Academic Support While Traveling: WVA’s responsive faculty allow students to stay on track even while away. Customized support plans, remote learning options, and ongoing communication ensure academic continuity throughout the travel season.
- Small Class Sizes & Personalized Instruction: With a 4:1 student-to-staff ratio, students receive individualized attention and mentorship from experienced educators who understand the unique needs of student-athletes.
- 14 Advanced Placement (AP) Courses: Students may choose from a wide range of AP classes, including STEM, humanities, and social sciences, enabling them to challenge themselves academically and earn college credit.
- Platinum Status on the AP Honor Roll: WVA has achieved Platinum Status from the College Board, recognizing its commitment to expanding AP access and helping students succeed at the highest academic levels.
College Counseling & Pathway Program
WVA provides a comprehensive and individualized college counseling program to help each student chart a course for success beyond high school:
- The Pathway Program: A structured, multi-year college preparation program that guides students through goal setting starting in the Freshman year together with academic planning, standardized testing strategies, personal essay development, and application preparation.
- Individual College Counseling: One-on-one advising ensures students identify colleges that align with their academic, athletic, and personal goals—whether NCAA programs, competitive academic institutions, or both.
- Athletic Recruitment Support: For students interested in collegiate athletics, WVA offers support in navigating the recruitment process, including outreach strategies, video development, and communication with college coaches.
Proven Results: Collegiate Success
In 2025, out of eight students, three were admitted to Colby College and one to Yale. Others are attending the University of Denver, Umass Amherst and University of Utah. WVA student-athletes graduate prepared for success in higher education, with alumni attending and excelling at some of the most selective colleges and universities in the country, including:
- Yale University
- Harvard University
- Colby College
- Dartmouth College
- University of Vermont
- Middlebury College
- University of Colorado Boulder, and many more.
This track record of academic and athletic achievement is a testament to the strength of WVA’s holistic and student-centered approach.
