WVA Winter Term

Waterville Valley Academy (WVA) Winter Term Program

Term Dates: Early November – March

Grades: 9–12 | Day and Boarding Options Available

The WVA Winter Term Program is designed for high school student-athletes who are passionate about competing at a high level during the winter months while staying connected to their home school communities year-round. This program offers a seamless blend of academic continuity and elite snow sports training, allowing students to chase podiums without pausing their education.

Train at a High Level, Stay on Track Academically

For athletes who want to maximize their winter season without compromising their academic progress, WVA’s Winter Term offers a structured, high-support environment that balances both pursuits:

  • On-Snow Training: Daily discipline-specific coaching in Alpine and Freestyle. Students train with world-class coaches and gain access to top terrain and competition venues—all within a high-performance, athlete-focused culture.
  • Competition-Focused Calendar: Our training blocks are aligned with the regional and national competition calendar, allowing student-athletes to focus on peaking at the right time.
  • Off-Snow Development: Athletes benefit from age-appropriate strength and conditioning, recovery protocols, and sport psychology integration.

Academics: Home School Curriculum + WVA Support

Our academic model is built to complement—not replace—your home school:

  • Home School Alignment: Students continue with their home school curriculum during their time at WVA. Whether it’s a public or private school, we coordinate with families and school counselors to ensure a smooth, productive term.
  • Structured Academic Schedule: Students follow a structured academic day, with dedicated time for studying, classwork, test prep, and one-on-one academic check-ins.
  • Personalized Instruction: WVA’s expert faculty work closely with each student to support their home school coursework. Small class sizes and a 4:1 student-to-staff ratio ensure individualized attention and accountability.
  • Fully Equipped Academic Center: Our learning spaces are equipped for remote instruction, online portals, and all other modern learning tools—ensuring seamless academic integration.

Flexible Boarding or Day Options

  • Boarding: Residential students live in a safe, structured, and supportive community environment that fosters independence and camaraderie.
  • Day Students: Local families benefit from full access to the WVA training and academic program without boarding commitments.

In both formats, students gain independence, build lifelong friendships, and experience what it means to live and train like a full-time athlete.

Why Choose Winter Term?

For many families, Winter Term is the ideal way to blend commitment with flexibility. It allows high school athletes to:

  • Maintain momentum in their home school coursework
  • Gain valuable exposure to elite-level coaching and competition
  • Prepare for future full-term programs or college-level athletics
  • Experience life as a high-performance student-athlete—without committing to a year-round academy model

Whether you're on the road to FIS, USASA Nationals, or simply leveling up your winter training, WVA’s Winter Term gives you the tools, structure, and support to get there—without falling behind in the classroom.
